Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport climbed up six places to 18th in the 2014 global rankings released July 15 by U.K.-based Skytrax, one of the world’s leading front-end aviation review firms.

The facility, also assessed as the 10th best airport in Asia, made the top 10 in six other best categories: immigration, third; serving 30-40 million passengers, fourth; staff in Asia, sixth; both baggage delivery and transits, ninth; and security processing, 10th.

“TTIA’s improved rankings stem from the newly refurbished Terminal 1, as well as additional passenger facilities and services in the lounges,” an airport official said. “We will continue working to improve the airport with a view to further advancing across all categories.”

Singapore’s Changi Airport finished No. 1 globally followed by Incheon in South Korea, Munich and Hong Kong International.

Taiwan’s second largest carrier EVA Airways Corp. also performed well in the Skytrax airline rankings. It was named the world’s 12th best carrier and finished in the top 10 for the best categories of business class airport lounges, sixth; and cabin crew and economy class, both seventh.

The Skytrax airport rankings are based on 12.85 million surveys by travelers of 110 nationalities using 410 airports. They take into consideration customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport services and products.

Similarly, the airline rankings are based on 18.85 million surveys by travelers of 105 nationalities using 245 carriers. They measure 41 KPIs for front-end products and services. (JSM)
