Dingpu Station on the western end of Taipei metro’s Bannan Line is scheduled to commence operations in June, driving the east-west route further into the heart of New Taipei City’s Tucheng District.

Situated in one of Greater Taipei’s industrial hubs, the station provides easy access to nearby Dingpu High-tech and Tucheng Industrial parks. It also shortens Taipei Main Station roundtrip travel time by over 30 minutes.

Wang Sheng-wei, commissioner of New Taipei City Government’s Transportation Department, said the Bannan Line is projected to carry an additional 15,000 passengers per day after Dingpu Station opens, with roughly 8,000 using the service during rush hours.

“It will double as the starting point of the planned Sanying Line in 2024, extending the reach of the northern Taiwan metro into New Taipei’s southwestern Sanxia and Yingge districts.”

Design of the terminal combines high-tech and local features, as represented in the light-emitting diode, or LED, walls adorned with white tung blossoms symbolic of the region.

According to Wang, successful trial runs between Dingpu and Yongning stations have been conducted since the end of last year—a positive sign auguring well for the official launch next month.

“With a wide range of transfer options available, the station is set to become an important center of public transportation, linking industrial satellites and residential suburbs of Taiwan’s largest metropolitan area,” he said. (YHC-JSM)
