A Taiwan delegation headed by Lee Jen-fang, deputy minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs, will participate in the 2011 Interior Lifestyle Tokyo at Tokyo Big Sight June 1 to 3, according to the CCA.

“The event is an important international exchange platform for the cultural industry and professional vendors,” the CCA said May 25. “It allows Taiwan’s cultural and creative design manufacturers to have direct contact with buyers and distributors, and collect information on the global consumer market.”

Fang Jy-shiuh, a CCA department director, said, “Taiwan’s competitiveness lies in its rich culture and soft power” adding that, the combination of design and culture in the craft industry fully demonstrates the nation’s forte.

“Participation at the show will help expand our market in Japan and strengthen our ties with the Japanese government and academic sector,” Fang said.

A total of 44 works will be displayed at the event, from companies including Cheerful Fashion Goods Co. Ltd., U-Cube Creative Ltd. and Mansion Technology Inc., according to Lin Mei-chen, chief of the CCA-affiliated National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute’s Taipei Branch.

“This is the third year Taiwan will attend the show,” Lin pointed out. “Products exhibited in previous years were just prototypes, while all the works showcased this year have been mass produced.”

The event, in its 21st year, is a design-oriented trade fair for kitchen, dining and gift items, as well as home accessories and textiles. It aims to provide high quality business opportunities for exhibitors and visitors, event organizers said. (THN)
